First meeting

20 minutes later I walked back into the living room, dressed in baggy clothes and towel drying my hair. "So, we ready to put the contraption together?"

"we can start while the last pages print..."i said, pointing to the printer, and pulled out a stack the size of a small book, shuffling them into order

"Such a pain...well, lets get this over with."

Two weeks later...

"I really do hate these wires," I said, pissed that I had gotten the similarly colored cables mixed up again. The machine seemed to be like some sort of platform, with two fans underneath that spun in opposite directions. But the platform was made of some sort of mix of glass and metal, so any air generated wouldn't make it above the platform. It had bars sticking out like someone had been making a basket. Or a flower. with the bars curving inward. And the bars each seemed to hold an individual computer that all had to be hooked up to a couple of monitors and generators. Now all we had to get done was some wiring to get this thing to do whatever it was meant to do. "Hows it looking on your end?"

"......" i was in the middle of wireing a particularly hard set of wires above me, and i glanced at my notes, and nodded, the wire strippers in my mouth falling as i spit them out to speak ".... Sections 1 through 18 out of 38 are done... need me to come over and take over for a minute while you take a break?" i asked, noticing she had miswired them again, and exhalled loudly as i whpped my forehead and did the last 3 wires with a yawn, rolling up and over to her, laying down and looking at what she was attempting to do

"Nah, I can do this..."

"fine, ill go tell them we only have 19 more sections to complete..." i said simply, wipeing off my face and hands, walking over to the area i found that their mic was hidden

"We're so close to finishing this...the only reason we haven't is because the wires are all the same color. Was whoever made this colorblind?"

"botttom side of eat wire has a code that coencides with the code next to each port, or next wire..." i said, pointing out what i had noticed "hey, things almost done, whatever the hell it is, all that is left is to finish wireing and check the computer software to make sure its working...."

"...Oh. Then..." I started checking my current work to make sure I didnt screw up again. When I finished, I plopped down onto the cool platform, rolling over onto it.

"better?" i asked, looking over at her and how she was sprawled, and smiled, finally acustomed to the positions she would find herself laying in (sorry, it sounded like she rolled into a resting position)

"Very much. Now test the damn thing. See what it does."

"gimme a minute, gonna do a last check, and then i have to check the computers code to make sure it wont destroy the thing..." i said with a sigh, handing her a water bottle and got to work "take a break, ill finish up here..."

"I am taking a break," I muttered, taking the water bottle.

"..." i nodded, and turned on my music, my head bopping in rythem with the music, and began checking everything, my mouth moving silent along with the lyrics, in my own world as i began working quickly, and began sealing up panels as i went to make everything alright, and turned to the screens, pulling out a keyboard i had scavenged from an old computer i had found in a courner of our closet, and wired it in, booting up the devices computer and began reading the code, the green code contrasting against my skin and hair in the dark area where i was working, having turned off the lights in the front room in order to see the code better

I couldn't see very well what he was doing, but didnt move, since the platform was so cool and oddly comforting, despite being a piece of transparent metal(?) that seemed to hum. Not an entirely mechanical hum, but...it was humming a song? To a familiar tune...

"The hell?"

"something wrong?" i asked, noticing her reaction out of the courner of my eye and pulled off my headphones to look at her

"The platform's humming!"

"powersource... i had to start it up a small amount to check the program and make sure there arent any errors in the code, and do a system diagnostic to make sure everything is hooked up right...." i said, not sure what she ment by it, as i couldnt tell the difference

I simply sat there, not sure what to respond. Instead, I looked at the screen, noticing a window had appeared on it, asking 'PROGRAM START?' with only one option.

"okay, thats all good, programs been optimized, you have your damn machine, can we all go now?" i asked loudly, unhooking the keyboard and looked around, moving over to where Reina was, and Jane joined us excitedly

"Start the program, make sure it runs without error, does what its supposed to," Was the order.

I groaned exasperated, sprawling myself back onto the platform. "I doubt it does anything more than look pretty...."

"what the hell IS it supposed to do?" i asked curiously, hesitantly starting the program when she was on the platform, and went to the middle, watching the screen carefully

'Program initiated- do not interrpt process.' The machine started to whir loudly, like the really old computers of way back when, and the blades started spinning like the ones on lawnmowers. After a few minutes of that, it...just kept doing that.

"...This is what we were kidnapped for. How-"

Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed that the screen suddenly had a bunch of windows popping up on the screen, and disappearing before what they said could even be read. All of a sudden, I felt like someone punched be in the center of my chest, and that I was falling, as if this were the drop zone in great america. I gasped, trying to breathe, unable to move from the platform, yet everything pushed away forcefully. Then the blades stopped, and I slipped into unconsciousness, last thing noticed was that the power went out completely.
