Small people

I scoffed. "Perfect?" I asked incredulously. "We're probably the most flawed beings ever made to walk the face of this earth!"

"but out of everyone, we are the only ones alive... think about it;.... i just javalined a kid twice my size, knocked him out, but i have a serious limp, and i turn into a controlled killer when adrenaline surges through me... id say we are pretty badass weapons for our ages" i said, looking at her from over my shoulder and rubbed my wrist

I frowned, knowing he had a point. "But...while what we're capable of doing is amazing, everything theyve done to us outweighs whatever good there actually is."

"the acts of one person do not dictate the deeds of another... they gave us an ability, and we are using it to protect others... it takes time, but eventually, we will do more good than we did here... life is full of good and bad things... and some of them are really good, some not so good... they balance each other out, and you need to see things in a positive light... otherwise you will fall into despair"

"...I think I stopped wanting to look for the light of things a long time ago," I said, suddenly beginning to feel an extreme shock of pain, stronger than the first. I curled back into a ball, begging for it to stop.

"....." i sighed and held back, guessing that touching her would cause more pain, and sat to the side, watching over her while whispering it would be alright, my eyes alert for anything

"..." Once the level of pain bacame bearable again, I began breathing normally and stood up, looking a shade paler.

"....." i nodded at her quietly, helping her up very gentally "were going back, everyones ready... the others who were needled have been waundering around for some time.... they seem driven towards noise, so every 10 miutes, ive tossed some rocks over down the hall to keep them away..." i said very quietly

"Thatll only work oh so long," I said weakly, "Soon, the chemical will increase their senses, allowing them to detect the weak and vulnerable, eliminate them in a 'survival of the fittest' manner. They will do literally anything to kill." I started walking backwards, away from him. "So me being near you can cost your life."

".... ive been alive for years... ive seen things i shouldnt... i wont leave you here... your death would be on my mind, and i wouldnt be able to live with myself... better to die protecting someone you love than die alone as a coward"

"Thats if they let you die," I added. "Or else its not fair because the effort was in vain..."

"i trust you... and thats rare... come on, we got to get back to the room to let them all know how to escape...." i said, taking a long bar from a broken bed

I nodded, following after him.

"....." i sighed, having to beat back several people i knew as friends, and my mood grew darker as we continued "get inside, lead them to the area we found that leads to outside... keep Sonia at the back, i wish to be there to see her expression..." i said simply, my voice quiet and cold as i took the stance at the door someone had been holding while i was gone, and he was pale, running inside due to my expression

I nodded numbly, ordering people to follow in an orderly fashion, and sending Sonia to the back, even though she was reluctant at first. I found the scientist girl, and asked her to lead instead. She looked at me, slightly shocked. "Just keep them going. I need to stay out of sight."

"But you-!"

"I know what it feels like when youre dying, you know. He needs to focus on getting you all out safely. I need to stay out of the way." With that, I discreetly pushed a wall leading to a secret passage, having it close after me.

"he wont leave without you big sister...." Sonia said quietly, and galnced at me, and i nodded tersly back at her, not worried as everyone was in the room now, including her and Risa

I sighed and patted her head. "I cant leave."

"Can I ask why? Big brother will want a reason.... And I don't wanna leave you either...." Sonia said, trying to not cry

I started brushing my fingers through her hair. "Im dying. At this rate, I wont even see the end of today..."

"is there a way to stop it?" Sonia asked as she sniffled a bit

"I dont know, if I did, I wouldnt be suffering now..."

"why not ask the scientist lady?" Sonia asked, wanting to go back out to where the female had been directing people outside

"Its not her department..."

".... well, if you wont leave, then i wont leave... and big brother would feel the same..." she said simply, latching onto Risa's leg

"Buts its not safe for you here..." I protested, trying to get her to let go.
