The Wizards Assistant closed

"so like vampires or werewolves... strange..." i yawned, nodding as i took a plate of food, and curled up on the makeshift couch i had been sleeping on and began eating

"Yeah, I guess.." I served myself a little bit to eat as well.

"... so what is your world like? youve told me about the men, and how they are the same as here... but what other things do and dont you have?"

"Oh boy, where to start with that... well, magic, actual magic, I dont think it exists like it does here, its mostly for entertainment, or...well, thats pretty much it. Often just smoke and mirrors. People are more afraid or technology than of magic..."

"it exists, other wise you wouldnt have been able to come here... but what is this technology?" i said, having problems pronouncing the word

"Well... I guess you could say its stuff people invented to do things they couldn't be able to do on their own, since almost no one uses magic for everyday things. "

"what is it a television does? you mentioned it while you muttered in your sleep back at the inn..." i said, brushing my hair back into some semblance of order

"...How do I explain so it makes sense... um, it takes a lot of pictures in sequence and records sound and projects it onto a device for people to watch."

"so, it could record us talking and for example, waving my hand, and later on, if we wanted to look at it, we could play it on a device such as a television? interesting..." i said, having a little bit of a problem understanding fully what she ment, but understoon the gist of it

"Yeah, thats sort of how it works," I laughed, relieved I didnt make it sound so complicated.

"did you have something to replace walking and carrages?"

"Um...yeah. Cars. Theyre horseless carriges. They run on fuel."

"hmmmm... what was that square device that you had in your pocket? does it have any use?" i asked, as i snapped my fingers, searching for it in the house, knowing i hadnt gotten rid of it in case she needed it

"The- oh! Thats my phone. Its used for communication. Thats the simple explination. It has lots more uses, but if I try to explain more...it'll get complicated..."

"so is it similar to a carrier pidgeon?" i asked with a curious voice as i handed it over to her

"I guess you could put it that way." I turned it on, showing it had no signal. Duh. The little app icons popped up after a few seconds, and showed him the screen. "It also has games and stuff."

"interesting.... powered by electricity...." i said, entranced by the device

"Yeah, pretty much everything that isnt alive is powered by electricity," I said.

"technically we are powered by electricity... but this is so small... how did they get the pictures to stay in the container where they placed them?"

"Um... someone just figured out how to do that. I didn't build that thing, so I cant really explain much of the technical stuff."

"strange.... and everyone has one of these?" i asked, handing it back carefully

"Just about. Before I got mine, I got jelous of little kids who had them. Those little suckers could barely talk yet knew how to use them so well."

"strange...." i said with a yawn, glancing at the window to gauge the time

"Strange?" I echoed.

"im not used to the childlike wonder that device gave me... if i wanted to know about anything, id read my diarys.... i try not to get excited, cause i dont know what will happen..."
